You need to play this demo

VVVVVV demo on Kongregate.  2d-gravity-switching-platforming-amazement.  Also kick-ass soundtrack.  I will probably end up buying this.  The full version is like $15 buck.

Canabalt! Eff yeah!

Play it.  Become one with your daring escape from a city under attack. I am so hopelessly hooked to this.  Expect to see high score posts.

Monsters Den – Book of Dread

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Found another amusing one on Kongregate called “Monsters Den – Book of Dread.”  This one has a cool old-school D&D dungeon crawl feel to it, and even lets you customize your party before you begin.  It’s a dungeon crawl though, don’t expect much in story and I’m not entirely sure it ever ends, but I’ve found it amusing.

Phage Wars 2

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Imagine Real Time Risk – taking place between viruses in peitry dishes where you get to customize your virus strain mission after mission so that it can be the strongest.  If that sounds fun to you, then you should check out Phage Wars 2.

Another Flash Game: Heavy Weapons

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Hey check out Kongregate with Heavy Weapons.  This is another fun one, more of a top-down kill-them-all shooter, kinda like Geometry Wars with a dash of Ikaruga.  I especially had fun playing this one with a Metroid remix by Arm Cannon playing in the background.

You may also note I’ve created a new Post category called “Flash games.”  I’ve noticed with increased frequency I’ve been posting links to cool flash games, so I thought they deserved their own category.  I’ve gone back through and moved appropriate posts to this category as well.

More Internet Gems

Friday, May 15th, 2009

This time I have some games for you all.  Lately I’ve been playing flash games at Kongregate.  It’s been around awhile I know, but it seems a nice place to find some good flash games.  I don’t have an account yet (and the community’s over population with tween-aged chat-addicts is what stops me from getting one), but I could see the benefits to one – It’s like having XBL with Achievements for Flash games.  it’s pretty neat.

Anyway, here’s my favorites so far:

  • Don’t look back: And engrossing low-tech platformer with an interesting twist or two and good music.  The ending will either make you scratch your head or scream WTF.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
  • Crush the Castle: Simple but addictive fun.  You control a trebuche and you need to kill all the rebel lords, ladies, and knights by knocking their own castles down on top of them.  This one you can beat in a long sitting, but it’s still lots of fun.
  • Gemcraft:  Another tower defense game but this one works quite differently.  It’s another path-based one instead of mazing (which is a bummer) but it’s unique mechanic makes up for it IMO.  In this game you build towers, but you also put magic gems in the towers to make them go.  The color of the gem determines how much damage it does and what kind of effect it has.  To improve the tower, you must fuse gems together to get more powerful gems. Also the game uses mana to fuel not just gem creation and building towers, but also to banish monsters that make it to the end of the path.  So instead of only being able to allow 20 monsters, so long as you have enough mana to banish a monster it get sent back to the start, and different monsters cost different mana to banish.  Tons of stages and level up options make it something to come back to IMO.

Xeno Tactic 2 follow up

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Nayth0r commented quite clearly the issues with this game and by-in-large I share his opinions.  That said, I was still able to finish off the game today, beating the last mission, something I couldn’t do with the first Xeno Tactic.   Perhaps thats the actual biggest strike against it, is how much faster I was able to beat it.

Overall still one of the more fun Flash Games out there.  Not as good as Xeno Tactic 1, but still not bad.

Xeno Tactic 2

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Those of you who have been around since the Free Games Challenge, I found out that they made a sequel to Xeno Tactic.  Xeno Tactic 2 is different from the first one – it doesn’t have the free mazing feel of the original and is more you have to build your defenses around a preset path.  There are different turrets to try and try (though they still call the land-based missile launcher a S.A.M which… is dumb… I might still write the creator about that).

Anywho, if you’re bored and want to try it go ahead. I can’t get past level 2… almost… but not quite yet…
